Wyoming Vehicle Title Guide & FAQs

Wyoming title transfers must be completed accurately and notarized to avoid delays. This guide explains where to sign your title, common mistakes that can void it, and how to replace a lost or damaged Wyoming title without issues.

Signing Your Wyoming Vehicle Title

Wyoming title transfers require extra care because the seller’s signature must be notarized. Signing your title incorrectly or without a notary present can void the document and force you to apply for a duplicate title.

Important Wyoming Title Rules

  • The title must be notarized – do not sign until you are in front of a Notary Public
  • Use blue or black ink only
  • No white-out, erasing, or alterations
  • No cross-outs, scribbles, or tears
  • Do not sign in the dealer reassignment section unless you are a licensed dealer

If your Wyoming title is signed incorrectly or without notarization, the County Clerk will require a duplicate title before the vehicle can be sold.

Where to Sign a Wyoming Title

Sign the back of the title where it is marked “Signature of Seller(s)”.

Print your name directly below where it reads “Printed Name of Seller(s)”.

Do not sign the title until you are physically in front of a Notary Public. The notary will verify your identity and notarize your signature.

Vehicles With Multiple Owners

If more than one owner is listed on the Wyoming title, all listed owners must sign.

Each required signature must be notarized at the time of signing.

Titles Showing a Lienholder

If a lienholder is listed on the Wyoming title, the lien must be released before ownership can be transferred.

  • Lien release signed directly on the title
  • Or a separate official lien release document from the lender

Without a lien release, the County Clerk will not process the title transfer.

Replacing a Lost or Damaged Wyoming Title

If your Wyoming title is lost, stolen, damaged, or voided, you must obtain a replacement title before selling the vehicle.

  • Replacement titles are issued through your local County Clerk’s Office
  • All owners must sign the application
  • Valid identification is required
